Cherry blossom clichés are nowhere to be found in this composition, which reaches instead for considerably more unusual materials at the top. Poppy seeds, almond and ambrette introduce the composition with a nutty, slightly musky start far removed from typical pink-floral branding. That top gives way to iris, violet and luscious fig at the center, powdery and fruity, taking the fragrance somewhere more textured than its name suggests. Tonka bean, barley and white musks close the composition, warm and grainy, finishing on a comforting, almost bread-like note rarely seen in mainstream perfumery. Notez built this as a woody floral with gourmand undertones, versatile enough for daytime wear across most of the year. Sakura Perfume works nicely for office settings, casual outings and quiet evenings about equally well. The barley note stands out as an unusual choice, giving the finish a doughy warmth unlike almost anything else in this catalog. Spring favors the fruity floral top most, while the tonka and barley close keeps it comfortable through cooler months. A fragrance named Sakura that skips cherry blossom for barley instead is a strange, interesting swing, and it mostly lands.
