Few men's fragrances need less introduction than Sauvage, though this Eau de Parfum concentration tells a slightly different story than the Eau de Toilette most people already know. Calabrian bergamot leads as always, though patchouli and vanilla absolute now join it at the top, giving the citrus opening an earthy, sweet undertone the original version never had. A spicier heart follows, built from sichuan pepper, lavender, star anise and nutmeg, before ambroxan and vanilla close the base with the same dense, mineral-sweet backbone that made the original a phenomenon, just pushed further into richness. Aromatic amber is the more accurate label for this concentration, leaning warmer than the fresher fougère character people usually associate with Sauvage Cologne. It works for daytime wear without much trouble, though the added weight underneath makes it hold up just as well into evening. Cooler months let the vanilla and patchouli show up more clearly, while bergamot keeps enough brightness for warmer weather too. If the original always felt slightly thin for your taste, Dior addresses that directly here, trading some sharp citrus clarity for noticeable depth in the base.
