Milk pepper is an note to build a citrus opening around, and it's doing more work than its modest billing suggests: softening tangerine and lemon into something with a faintly creamy hush, before rose, jasmine and fig pull the whole composition toward gentler floral-fruit ground. That shift happens quickly: Artemus Emerald spends barely a moment on citrus before oud starts to announce itself underneath. Agarwood, saffron, sandalwood and white musk make up the rich, resinous base, enough to land the fragrance in oriental woody territory rather than the fresh citrus its opening led with. Evening plans and cooler weather suit it best, since the saffron and agarwood need a little chill in the air to really show off.
