Rapture implies overwhelming intensity, and this fragrance's spice-heavy structure at least gestures toward that idea, even if the actual experience is more warmly comforting than ecstatic. Sharp and slightly green is the opening, pepper, juniper and violet together, an aromatic combination without much sweetness to soften it. An full four-material heart follows (toffee, cinnamon, lavender and sage), sweet and herbal at once, a noticeable shift from the sharper opening. Rich and warm, the base closes on vanilla, amber, tonka bean and leather, delivering the fragrance's most substantial, "rapturous" stage by far. Oriental spicy is the fitting classification, structured almost entirely for cooler weather and evening wear. Rapture Cologne suits dinners, celebrations, and any occasion calling for a fragrance with serious presence, especially once that leather-vanilla base has had time to fully develop. Cooler months bring out the best in this fragrance, letting the amber and leather carry maximum warmth against the cold. The toffee-cinnamon pairing in the heart is doing the most interesting work here, bridging a sharp, green opening to a rich, leathery base more smoothly than either alone could manage. Whether or not it lives up to the emotional intensity its name implies, this holds up as a well-constructed, warmly spiced oriental built for serious cold-weather wear.
